The Grapevine – Healthy Life Style Tip #12 with Jill Knapp – How much exercise do I need a day?

  |  in Body Image, Grapevine, Weight Loss Solutions4 Comments

Today I talked to Jill about how much exercise we need each day and throughout the week. Jill told me that the Dr. Recommended amount seems to be 30 min a day. She also says that a growing amount of evidence shows that even 1/2 that amount can help. That’s only 15 min of moderate exercise a day can help you live a longer life.

Some people dread the word “exercise”, I know I do, so I have started a daily ritual, thanks to Jill’s motivation to get out and get moving. I don’t think of it as exercise any more. I like to get out for a walk in nature and I use this time to also find a time in my day for “sacred awe”. This is a time that I get my heart rate up, feel a little sweat and also enjoy the aliveness I feel in my body when I’m pushing it.

Your exercise can include a brisk walk, water aerobics, bike riding, sports of any kind, treadmill or elliptical machines or a good workout video.

You have to listen to this great call with Jill, it’s short and you will love it. I get a little excited about the changes that I’ve made to my lifestyle with some “exercise” and you’ll also hear about some research I found about the connection between brain growth and exercise, this is a must hear for anyone that is older or has older parents. You’ll want to get them moving!

Listen Below………………

For sedentary people, the main key is some exercise is better than none.

Jill says, “I know for me having type 2 diabetes it is so important that I exercise. Do it now and don’t wait for a health problem to arise.”

Isn’t that the truth? We’re making healthy lifestyle changes now that can affect the rest of our lives and the lives of our children. If it is to be it is up to me!

So make a goal and Get off the couch and “Get Up and Get Moving”

Thanks Jill!

As always, please let us know what you think about this call. We love your feedback and hope you will share it with your friends. You know what to do….click those share buttons below and let others know you are making a healthy life style change today!

The Grapevine – Healthy Life Style Tip # 7 with Jill Knapp – Stop Making Excuses; Just Do It!

  |  in Body Image, Grapevine, Latter-Day Woman Blog, Weight Loss Solutions6 Comments

Today Jill talks about a subject near and dear to my heart, taking accountability for ourselves and deciding to get rid of the excuses that can trap us and sabotage our efforts to succeed in a healthy lifestyle change. Jill tells us how to be aware of the excuses that stop us from getting up and getting moving.

My key take away’s and a-ha moments from Jill were:

Being conscious of the triggers that sabotage your exercise plans and having a plan to get past those triggers are key, for example: on those days you don’t want exercise? Those are the days you need to exercise the most……

Besides getting fit there are some great benefits to get up and get moving!

1. Think of the benefits of exercise and how you will feel after (you’ll never say, “Oh man, I just wasted an hour at the gym.”)

2. Picture yourself more fit. If it’s for weight loss then picture yourself fitting into smaller clothes.

3. Exercise is a pick me up. It’s a natural antidepressant and can help reduce stress. Keep those thoughts in your mind when you just don’t want to do it.

4. It will improve your self esteem. It is proven that those who exercise and are fit have better self esteem. (find a buddy to keep you motivated and accountable.

5. We are always looking out for our family, loved ones, co-workers, if you exercise you actually will have more energy to help others. Take time for yourself so that you will be healthy enough to take care of the ones you love!
