Today Jill talks about a subject near and dear to my heart, taking accountability for ourselves and deciding to get rid of the excuses that can trap us and sabotage our efforts to succeed in a healthy lifestyle change. Jill tells us how to be aware of the excuses that stop us from getting up and getting moving.
My key take away’s and a-ha moments from Jill were:
Being conscious of the triggers that sabotage your exercise plans and having a plan to get past those triggers are key, for example: on those days you don’t want exercise? Those are the days you need to exercise the most……
Besides getting fit there are some great benefits to get up and get moving!
1. Think of the benefits of exercise and how you will feel after (you’ll never say, “Oh man, I just wasted an hour at the gym.”)
2. Picture yourself more fit. If it’s for weight loss then picture yourself fitting into smaller clothes.
3. Exercise is a pick me up. It’s a natural antidepressant and can help reduce stress. Keep those thoughts in your mind when you just don’t want to do it.
4. It will improve your self esteem. It is proven that those who exercise and are fit have better self esteem. (find a buddy to keep you motivated and accountable.
5. We are always looking out for our family, loved ones, co-workers, if you exercise you actually will have more energy to help others. Take time for yourself so that you will be healthy enough to take care of the ones you love!
Listen here to learn why exercise is more than just getting fit.
This week Jill shares what her families favorite snacks are to keep handy. One of the keys to shifting your lifestyle into a healthier way of living is replacing some of the old habits with new and improved habits. Low calorie snack can really help your appetite stay under control. Jill suggests adding the following to your shopping cart to prevent out of control eating and delicious alternatives to other choices.
Carrot They are a crunchy items not only help satisfy a craving for food, but are healthy.
Sliced tomato or grape tomatoes. I love having these on hand just to pop into my mouth when in a hurry or just wanting something small.
Grapes. Regular grapes can make one really healthy snack, You must give freezing them a try, They end up like having a candy like snack.
Apple wedges. These snack items can help ease a craving for sweets.
Broccoli and cauliflower. I pre bag these and take them out when I leave the house. They are great to have in the car just to eat when you are running errands.
Sliced cucumber. My kids favorite. Easy and quick and healthy
Watermelon circles. I take my cookie doe scoop and scoop out the watermelon into a bowl. Very refreshing especially when it’s hot outside.
I added a few to Jill’s list while we were talking on the phone. Listen to our short conversation to get the whole list. And be sure to share any of your low calorie snack items here so we can add them to our grocery list. Happy snacking…………

Hi I am Sheri Joi, the lucky woman who gets to interview some amazing and inspiring women in The Grapevine found at Latter-Day Woman.
Thank you everyone for your wonderful support of Latter Day Woman and The Grapevine, I know what it means to stay connected and I love being connected with all of you. I’m excited to introduce our new Health Tip of the Week with Jill Knapp.
Jill has been a favorite on The Grapevine and has written for our magazine as well. We asked Jill if she would give us a Healthy Lifestyle tip each week and she was delighted to be a part of this movement for a healthy lifestyle change. Jill is a champion in my book by losing over 100 pounds and now helping others make that change in their lives. I love Jill’s approach of making it simple, not drastic and I know her tips are going to be life changing for all of us that are interested in making those changes to be healthy. We will keep our calls short and sweet so you will always have time to listen in.
Let’s talk about change for a minute. I recently talked to one of my client’s and we talked about “change”. We both agreed that change will only happen when the pain we experience in our lives exceeds what we will allow. So how much pain are you willing to allow in your life? Will the pain be too much when you no longer can go on a hike with your kids or play a game of baseball? Will the pain be too much when you see your children grow into adults with the same bad health habits you exhibited for them when they were young? If you continue on the course you are on right now, will there be pain or sadness in looking back at what you could have done? Now is the time to take some action and one tip a week is a simple, easy way to make the changes necessary to guarantee you don’t look back on your health choices with regret. So let’s commit to CHANGE and begin the new path of a healthier lifestyle for YOU and your family.
TIP # 1 – YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL NO MATTER WHAT THE SCALES SAY!
As a coach for former beauty pageant queens for Dr. Oz and a contestant herself (She is currently 2nd runner up to Mrs. Idaho) Jill is an expert at knowing what makes people beautiful. The secrets that she shares just might surprise you. Also, Jill reveals just how many times you should be weighing yourself and when you should weigh yourself and the big question WHY. Listen below to find out what you can do to change the way you think about that number on your scale.
We love your feedback, let us know any a-ha moments or what you do to combat that number on the scale.
As a bonus, Jill shared a YouTube video about the great new movement going on to change the way we think about our bodies, I just cried as I watched it (yes I am that person that cries at Kleenex commercials so that might be saying something but I have such a passion to tell every woman just how amazing she is and this hits so close to my heart.)
Thanks Jill as always, you are an inspiration!

To listen to Jill’s personal journey, you can listen to the interview I did with her last year, it’s inspiring, our listeners loved the call and we had lots of great feedback. Click HERE.
