Recently I had the magical chance to talk with Carol Lynn Pearson. Carol Lynn is a bright shining star bursting her light through the midnight sky, we both share the same vision of expanding that light until all the shadows are scattered and nothing but light remains. Carol Lynn is a woman of strength and courage and we both know what it means to have a passion for true love. This is not the love you fall into or out of, this isn’t the love that is sticky and gooey, this is the pure love of God and of Christ and those that know them.
Carol Lynn and I spoke about the sensitive subject of homosexuality. Part of Carol Lynn’s story is about her marriage that ended after 12 years and 4 kids when her husband could no longer be part of the marriage because he was gay. Listen to our wonderful conversation to see how this
experience was an integral part of Carol Lynn’s journey as well as everyone that knew them. Her book, Goodbye, I love you, is the story of this journey. They remained dear friends and he died in her care, in her home 6 years after he had left their marriage. This woman knows what Christ’s love is and she shares it with everyone around her. She has become a spokesman for the gay community. We both became very emotional on the call as Carol Lynn shared stories with me about those that now reach out to her for support, peace, acceptance and love. She has become that trusted friend and advocate to so many in need. She receives countless emails, facebook messages and letters from all over the world from gay people telling heartbreaking stories of the persecutions, prejudices and the way they are shunned and ostracized by their own families. Story after story leads to suicide because of the shame, guilt and hopelessness they feel, this must stop.
Every life is precious, every life deserves love, every life deserves acceptance, every life deserves to LIVE! My hope and prayers are that by some small way I can join my voice with Carol Lynn Pearson’s and implore everyone around the globe to open their hearts to the love of God and encircle our gay brothers and sisters into our loving arms. The first weekend in November there will be a conference in Salt Lake City that shares the same name as Carol Lynn’s latest book, No More Goodbye’s: Circling the Wagons Around our Gay Brothers and Sisters. There is more information about the conference here at Mormon Stories.
May my interview with Carol Lynn, the conference in November, Carol Lynn’s books and all the silent prayers and pleadings bring awareness to the prejudice that is among us. May we open our hearts and know what true love is and never again say good by to anyone because they are different than we are. I dedicate this to my beautiful gay sisters and brothers – - you are my family and I love you so much.
I hope everyone will take the time to listen to this call with an open heart so that you can feel the love that Carol Lynn and I share for anyone suffering in the dark. May we bring LIGHT to that which has been in the darkness for when we bring light, the darkness can no longer remain. There is nothing for us to judge, there are only those for us to love.

Today’s call is a little different from the last 2 calls that we’ve had. In the first 2 calls we focused on specific ways you could earn a little extra money as a stay at home mom or how to save money or even better, get some freebies. Today we focused on the big question we all may have asked ourselves….
“WHY DON’T I EVER HAVE ENOUGH MONEY?”
This may have to do with your relationship with money. I know when I was first introduced to this concept I was sort of freaked out about having, what was called a “spiritual” relationship with money. I thought spiritual and money shouldn’t even be in the same sentence together and somehow it felt very wrong for me to even think about it that way, well….that may have been one of the reasons I was struggling so much with my money flow. Listen to this fantastic call with Trina as we explore the relationship we all have with money and where we may need to change our thinking to allow more money to flow into our lives. I think I kept it under an hour (barely), though it could have easily gone on for a whole weekend workshop (you’ll have to attend one of her BYU Education Week presentations for that). We are so fortunate to have the expertise of this wise woman. This refreshing call is filled with scriptures that really point out that our Heavenly Father wants us to have money and be abundant.

Trina is certainly the expert in this category and a GOOD girlfriend to keep on speed dial. If you don’t know Trina personally then take advantage of the AMAZING tips we talked about in today’s call. It was a long conversation again, PACKED with money saving information and exciting ways to get freebies. Trina has mastered the art of these subjects.
Her tips cover things about couponing, to where your kids can eat for free, price matching, travel savings (including FREE RV’ing), scholarship savings as well as FREE lectures, free ideas for free gym memberships, health care tips and so much more. Trina advises us to ask ourselves a series of questions before purchasing anything:
1- Do I need it?
2- Do I want it?
3- Can I live without it? (instead of buying it on impulse, sleep on it.)
4- How can the money be better spent (or invested)?
………….. last question …………..
5- If I have to have it, how can I get it cheaper or FREE?

Today I talked to Trina Boice. Trina is like Wikipedia on Steroids for what she is passionate about. Trina grew up in California with her twin sister and younger brother. She is a wife and mother and has won many awards for these roles, which her kids think is pretty funny. She has written dozens of resource books for primary, relief society, ward activities and
many others, after you listen to this call you will KNOW when Trina says she has some ideas for you…..well, you’ll get above and beyond what you expect. The reason I asked Trina to join me today is because she is an expert in teaching others how to “Stay UP in a Down Economy.”
I’m not really supposed to tell you but she is putting together a resource for this topic that sounds phenomenal. I asked Trina to give us 5 of her best tips for earning a little extra money and in true Trina spirit she shared over 20! This call is definitely not a short and sweet but it is PACKED with ideas you never knew were out there and Trina gives you the resources to get your hands on the little extra money that can make a difference for your family. From unclaimed money, mystery shopping and a website that may pay you $5 just to call and sing happy birthday to someone to advice on Ebay, Amazon and Craigslist. Trina’s enthusiasm for earning money while being a stay at home mom is over the top.
Listen to Part 1 of a series of calls I’ll be doing with Trina (there was so much content we had to break it up). This is going to be a three part series and you are going to LOVE it. I’m sure much of the content that you are getting will be included in her program that I’m not supposed to be mentioning so we’re getting a very intimate sneak peak of just what an expert Trina is in this field.

Today I talked to Jill about how much exercise we need each day and throughout the week. Jill told me that the Dr. Recommended amount seems to be 30 min a day. She also says that a growing amount of evidence shows that even 1/2 that amount can help. That’s only 15 min of moderate exercise a day can help you live a longer life.
Some people dread the word “exercise”, I know I do, so I have started a daily ritual, thanks to Jill’s motivation to get out and get moving. I don’t think of it as exercise any more. I like to get out for a walk in nature and I use this time to also find a time in my day for “sacred awe”. This is a time that I get my heart rate up, feel a little sweat and also enjoy the aliveness I feel in my body when I’m pushing it.
Your exercise can include a brisk walk, water aerobics, bike riding, sports of any kind, treadmill or elliptical machines or a good workout video.
You have to listen to this great call with Jill, it’s short and you will love it. I get a little excited about the changes that I’ve made to my lifestyle with some “exercise” and you’ll also hear about some research I found about the connection between brain growth and exercise, this is a must hear for anyone that is older or has older parents. You’ll want to get them moving!
Listen Below………………
For sedentary people, the main key is some exercise is better than none.
Jill says, “I know for me having type 2 diabetes it is so important that I exercise. Do it now and don’t wait for a health problem to arise.”
Isn’t that the truth? We’re making healthy lifestyle changes now that can affect the rest of our lives and the lives of our children. If it is to be it is up to me!
So make a goal and Get off the couch and “Get Up and Get Moving”
Thanks Jill!
As always, please let us know what you think about this call. We love your feedback and hope you will share it with your friends. You know what to do….click those share buttons below and let others know you are making a healthy life style change today!

Organic food is one of the fastest growing categories in the food industry. Do we need to buy organic? What does organic mean anyway?
Organic means
* Animals must have access to the outdoors.
*Fertilizer does not contain synthetic ingredients.
*Animals have not been treated with growth hormones.
*Produce has not been contaminated with chemicals used as pesticides.
This week I asked Jill if she would share what she has researched about Organic versus Non-organic foods. I was highly educated on what she had to tell us. Listen to our short but VERY informative conversation about what it means to be: 100% organic, organic ingredients, Natural and All Natural. Labels can be a little misleading so listen in and find out for yourself if you which fruits and veggies you want to make sure you are buying 100% organic.

As Jill tells us the bottom line is to do your research and choose wisely! Support your local farmers whenever you can. Also, finding and making a habit of visiting your local farmers markets each week is a great way to get healthy, delicious fruits and veggies. We’re creating habits that last a life time and leaving a legacy of healthy living!
Please feel free to share this podcast and to leave your comments about anything you have found interesting in your research of organic or non organic foods.

We’re half way through the year and it’s time to check in with our goals. Jill has some GREAT ways we can really accomplish and see some great results by the end of the year. This week Jill tells us the specifics for setting short term goals for a healthy lifestyle change. The most important thing is not to focus on your final weight loss goal! Sure you want to know where you are going but the short term goals will get you there without the discouragement that may throw you off your plan. Setting short term goals will help you succeed and won’t overwhelm your soul.
Start with the Weekly Goals-
This is the shortest possible goal you can set. Anything shorter could end you up feeling very discouraged especially since there are daily weight fluctuations. You must be realistic and expect nothing more than a loss of 1 to 2 pounds per week. Weigh in each week at the same time on the same scale. Listen in to the call to find out what time of day is the best time to “weigh in”. To track your exercise goals, hang a small calendar and write down for the week what your plan of action is for that week. How often you will work out and what type of exercise you will be doing. Make a check mark on the calendar if you followed through. You will LOVE seeing these check marks starting to line up on your calendar!
Monthly Goals-
You can get some great results with setting a monthly goal. A goal for about a loss of 5 to 8 pounds per month is good. You’re not just trying to lose weight you are aiming to change your lifestyle. Slow and steady wins the race every time. Keep up with your workout calendar by marking the days you followed though with your plan of action. Remember it takes 30 days to create a habit, you’ve had the same habit for a lot longer than the change you are making so be gentle with yourself. (Listen in for some more great insights about this.)
3 Month Goal.
If you are like me this is the goal for you. It’s really when you see a difference. If you kept up with your weekly or monthly goal your results will show. (You’ll feel it too!) You may be as much as 15 to 24 pounds lighter! You really need to reward yourself at this point. (Notice if you just panicked at the word reward….) A pedicure, new hairstyle or even a message will do the trick. Keep moving forward with your goals and you will get to where you want.
Beyond 3 months-
If you have not met your weight loss goal keep pressing forward with your plan. Just start again, EVERY DAY CAN BE A NEW START POINT, don’t wait until “Monday”. Keep up with marking your workouts down when you follow though and you will get there in due time. Many may have reached their weight goal by now. If you have then congratulations! Indeed you want to keep up with your working out and eating healthy so you don’t put back on the weight you have lost, remember this is a lifestyle change. You must have a plan on how you will maintain your weight loss and it’s called a healthy lifestyle change, commit to it and live it. Your children will thank you for the great habits you’ve taught them!
Listen to our short call below and hear more!
Happy Goal Setting!!
